My Bad Reading Habits Tag

Header - FionaHey, dolls! It would be a lie of the greatest magnitude if I said I had no bad reading habits. I honestly feel like I possess more bad than good habits. I was tagged for this by the amazing Orangutan Librarian many moons ago. Here are a *few* of my bad reading habits! Perhaps you all might relate to a couple of them!

Bad Habit #1 | Book Hoarding

Is it normal to have over 200 books on your Kindle that you haven’t read, in addition to around 75 physical copies you need to get to? I can’t help it when I meander through a used bookstore and uncover so many inexpensive books! As far as e-books are concerned, Amazon deals will be the death of me. I swear, I probably purchase every digital YA book that happens to have a reduced price.

Bad Habit #2 | TBR’s Are A Foreign Concept To Me

I don’t typically make strict tbr’s, but they are quite nonexistent in my mind. There is always a handful of novels that I tell myself I will read soon, but I more often than not, forget about them, and wind up reading whatever new release has captured my attention. My mind tends to wander at 75 mph. I simply can’t help being interested in anything and everything out there! Yes, this is my paltry excuse.

Bad Habit #4 | Cover Judging

I judge books by their cover all the time. It’s a consistent pattern of mine to read books with stunning covers. I truly have to tip my hat off to publishing companies and cover artists who make some artwork irresistible. If I wind up being disappointed in the process, at least, I still have a gorgeous cover on my shelves. Hehe.

Bad Habit #5 | Skim Reading Uneventful Sections

Ah! This is possibly the worst reading habit I have, but if a plot drags and I’m not particularly interesting in the characters or their relationships, I’ll likely skim read until something exciting occurs. I don’t do this too often, but if I’m reading a book and it begins to feel like a chore, I want to accelerate to the more momentous occasions.

  1. haha gosh I relate to the book hoarding!! I actually catalogued my kindle books recently cos it was getting out of hand… and yup there’s 200 books on there. Oop! And tbrs don’t work for me. I also totally judge books by their cover. Awesome answers!

    1. No worries, Lily! And you’re very welcome! ❤

I'm amazed by people who can stick to TBRs! It sounds like they have so much of their life organized, and here I am, not knowing which book to read tomorrow or the day after. Hahahaha.

  3. Haha I totally feel you on all of these! TBR’s are a foreign concept to me too, and I skim-read ALL THE TIME. I mean, if you don’t want to end up DNFing a book or being bored to death by it (thus being pissed in the long run lol), it’s the way to go. 😉 Terrific post!

    1. If I’m feeling “meh” about a series, I don’t have much initiative to finish it, and if I love a series, I don’t want it to end! It’s so hard sometimes! Haha

  4. Ahahah I love this tag, and that LOTR Gif is PERFECT and exactly me. I kind of have issues with finishing series, it either takes me years or…. I just, don’t hahaha 🙂 Lovely post, Kelly! ❤

  5. I always tell myself there are so many worse things to hoard then books! Plus friends and family have told me they get so many suggestions just from browsing my bookcase that it’s like I’m helping the publishing industry out. (That’s what I tell myself anyway!)

  6. I would love if I only had 75 unread books, haha. I have at least 300 of unread physical books. Kindle books is another story, haha. I am a sucker for those dang deals! I probably have like 250+ unread for Kindle. I am definitely a book hoarder. I am so bad at finishing series over the last couple years. I’ve been trying not to read any new series until I finish the ones I already started. Kind of sucks, because there are so many new series that I really want to read (and old ones), but for the most part I’ve been good about not starting any new ones. The guilt is starting to get at me.

  7. I’m definitely a book hoarder 🙈 I have so many unread books and I have piles everywhere in my house! However it makes me happy so maybe it isn’t such a bad habit ☺️

  8. Of course it’s normal to own hundreds and hundreds of unread books! 😀 I usually buy them when they are on sale for £1, so it’s not really hoarding. It’s money saving!
TBR is some mythical unicorn thing for me as well!

  9. Oh my, I relate to all of those habits of yours!! 😂😂😂 I don’t think skim reading of uneventful sections is that bad though, life’s too short to be bored… 🙂 With that said, I am guilty of that, especially when I’m on a verge of not finishing a book… and sadly, I am quite a stellar book ‘not finisher’…. 🙂

Thanks for the tag love, I will definitely do it sometime soon! ❤️

  10. I am a hoarder, a massive one. I totally judge books by the cover and I skim read too. Sometimes I go back because I feel like I skimmed too much an missed a plot point but that rarely happens lol I don’t feel bad though. It’s the author’s job to keep my attention on their writing and of it’s not working maybe their story or writing doesn’t work for me.
